Wow [Jul. 3rd, 2008|11:54 pm]
As of tonight, I have a six-figure word count on my novel-in-progress. And there's still so much that needs to happen.

Yay.

Also, crap.

I would never eat this, but I would consider buying a package just for the picture on the front.

Storm's a-brewin'. [Jun. 30th, 2008|12:18 pm]
Or at least last night it brewed and fell flat. We had a huge buildup and then nothing really happened. I mean yeah, it rained a little, but where was the thunder and lightning and all the other great sights and sound that I think are cool but they still make me nervous because I'm jumpy and it's not that I'm scared, it's just loud?

And did I mention that the other day my friend gave me an extra MicroUSB cord he had lying around and I can now upload photos again?

Anyway I took some pictures just as the clouds were blowing in during sunset:

On the right side of the photo is my apartment. This faces out into the parking lot, where you can see my car. I love that weird yellow lighting you get when it's stormy at sundown. This photo faces west.

The sky standing just outside my front door, facing southeast. I wish I could have caught more of it, it almost looks like a normal blue, but that's all cloud layer up there. Also, the tower that Shaun likes to say "Oh I see that thing get hit by lightning all the time!" about, making me want to not stand near it. (I wasn't at the time, it's across the street from the complex)

Ehehehe [Jun. 29th, 2008|01:22 pm]
Shaun's watching Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? on his computer and it's making me feel smug, and also better about myself, because I don't always trust the things I remember but it turns out that I did know the speed of light. (Off the top of my head, too, I just didn't trust myself at first XDD)

Okay back to pixeling. Gwargh doing semi-realistic animal ears is kind of hard.

Dammit [Jun. 28th, 2008|06:50 pm]
Wow I REALLY don't want to stay home tonight, I'm all antsy, but it doesn't look like anything's happening.

Damn.

edit: OK I lied. I have at least one companion and that is fine. Just don't want to go to IHOP with the Go People by myself. ;)

Odd. [Jun. 25th, 2008|01:24 pm]
I'm still not used to the fact that with income, I now CAN buy myself little treats once in a while. So I went over to J-list and ordered a Re-ment box and a couple of Pinky St. figures--because I've seen some photos and those figures are a very good size for the Re-ment minis. Now if I could just find my camera cord...

I'm also attempting to make a room box of a Japanese tatami room plus garden. Or I should say I plan to because all I've done is buy supplies and take measurements. But soon I'll be able to get started on that. We're (and by that I unfortunately mean 80% Shaun because it's like when I TOUCH things I make a mess, sigh) getting things cleaned up and organized around here and soon I'll have room to mess with all my beloved miniatures. ♥

Every week or so there's this "Pocket Morning Q+A" thing where they ask the members of Morning Musume all to answer a question. Here's the translation of this week's. Most of them gave typical, cute-Japanese-pop-star answers, but Michishige's (fourth one down) made me spit out my drink. XD

Ugh. [Jun. 16th, 2008|11:49 am]
I woke up with a nasty cold today.

I called in sick and now my attendance for the month is pretty shot. Gah. I hate that. However, I saw the average stats for my "team" (the people under my particular boss) and now I'll still hit above-average which is... well, pretty bad for them. But I need to not get colds, especially now. If I'm really diligent about my shifts through October I'll be okay.

I think I would have gone in if I still had a voice, but my throat is really sore, so... not much you can do like that with a phone job, I guess.

Okay fine, may as well... [Jun. 13th, 2008|10:27 am]
First of all: I really love this game. XD

Hi, my name is: Eliza

When I’m nervous I: Get light-headed and go lie down so I don't pass out

Last night I: Tried to work on novel (failed), played Super Paper Mario (almost failed but won against the boss in the end), and slept (succeeded eventually)

musings~♪ [Jun. 11th, 2008|11:10 am]
[Current Music |Secret Tunnel Song]

♪ I like abusing alt+ characters once in awhile, I can't help it.

The other day I drove home behind a car with the license plate "JIZZY." Really? That is not exactly something that I would put on my car... even if I was trying to show how virile I was or something...

I'm starting to notice Tuesday is always Hell Day at work. That's the day when I get stuck on the phone with the rude, demanding people, who keep me on the phone for half an hour (our average call time is supposed to be about 61/2 minutes) and have me do like three things at once. Also we were in queue my whole shift. Usually it's slower in either the first part of the afternoon, or the evening. Oh well. I'll always have my Saturdays.

Last night I had a very bizarre dream about critique group (there was a new member who came not with writing but with a hacked Super Mario World level? Riiiight. (Speaking of SMW hacks, there is a VERY good one called Return to Dinosaur Land that I played recently. It's not made to be super hard; I think it was a LITTLE harder than the original SMW. There's a download link on the page provided, so if you like that game, check it out!) And then wherever we were meeting was on a beach, and some of the Shadows from Circle of Many Faces came crawling out of the god damn ocean. I think that's maybe the first time that I've dreamed of something out of my own work. Interesting. Also, they looked creepier than I've previously described them, if that's possible... I remember they were skeletal with the shadowy "skin" barely clinging to the bones, and they had that cavity beneath the rib cage. The Shadows in the novel are supposed to be a LITTLE less defined, basically brittle bones covered in sort of a dark miasma that shifts, like if you get REALLY close and take a look at them (which is unlikely as they're easy to kill but still kind of dangerous) the darkness that covers the skeleton is shifting. Hmm, now I'm not sure. Being skeleton-like is arguably a little scarier, but the crazy contortionist WTF-IS-that ones of the book... I like them too.

I'm trying to drop hints in the novel as to just how Shadows are made without coming out directly and saying it. The intent is to be subtle but the truth probably lies closer to hiding more detail than necessary. Oh well.

stupid foot [Jun. 9th, 2008|01:50 am]
Being out of the boot today and in my shoe made me realize something I hadn't fully realized... and that's my left foot doesn't point straight forward.

I just got up to go to the bathroom and popped something in it and OH GOD IT HURT.

Physical therapy is probably going to suck, but I can't wait to get in, cause the fast I'm in the faster I'm out.

I think my health is more messed up this year. While everyone else is baking, I'm FREEZING unless it's like, 90 degrees. At least. And I should remind my out-of-state/country friends that we tend to have dry heat here which is far less miserable, thus why I'm feeling pretty comfortable out in the sun most days. Conclusion: I should never, ever move further north than I am now. Only other option at this point? Hawaii. ;)

Hmm I also can't sleep because there is a really weird low hum coming from upstairs and fuck if I know what it is. Better try to go back to sleep anyway since I have work tomorrow, but... yeah.

I did it! I shoved my foot into my left shoe!

Aww, lefty, I missed you! <3

Of course, now I'm still going to walk with a vicious limp, but oh well.

Why of all sites does amazon.com have to not be working? I wanted to price-check a DVD set I want (the full Gilmore Girls box, since a lot of my season sets got messed up when we moved a few years ago) and see if I can get that at any sort of discount from the full $220 or whatever. Which is not a bad price considering it has seven seasons.

Also, I bought this. It's gonna be awesome, especially when I play "LOVE Machine." Speaking of which, I really need to go clothes shopping. I need new pants. Again. Because I keep ripping mine.

Bwargh [Jun. 5th, 2008|10:30 am]
And more unintelligible grumblings from me today.

My LED poi pretty much died their final (yeah) death the other night so I'm having my friend order me a new pair since he gets a discount. What I'm talking about are these, they're basically for fire-spinning. Except, even with my record of doing, um, less-than-wise things with fire, I know I'm not nearly good enough to spin with actual fire, so I like the LED ones--I mean, at least they light up so they're nice and shiny. XD

I really need a new pair. This is a really good way for me to exercise right now, since my un-therapized foot doesn't lend itself to, you know, walking or running a lot. Poi are mostly upper-body, with minimal footwork. Also I learned how to do the 5-beat weave last week and now I forgot how. I can't do the 3-beat either. Everything I read or hear tells me that's the BASIC move you're supposed to learn before anything else. Well, I can do a butterfly, a windmill, and a variation on the windmill that I call the vertical weave but probably has a real name. I can also do some basic turns, and I can pretty much move around when I'm doing windmills or whatever... but no, I can't weave. At all. To save my life.

Just got home... [May. 31st, 2008|06:33 pm]
Drove into parking spot... walked towards house...

Two people in spa, fucking. Yes, trust me. Definitely fucking.

I opened the door to my apartment (which is very, very near the spa) and said "SASHA! :D" louder than I usually do. They didn't even look up.

What the fucking fuck1, people?

1Exactly, I guess

So much writing. [May. 29th, 2008|11:24 am]
I earned like four stickers last night. That's 2000+ words!

My Sam chapter's running long. I checked it and it's already hit 6k words. That would be fine for a single chapter, but there's also another scene that needs writing. I can't move them around, I totally did this huge chapter-angst session at work one day and decided for sure that this was how they needed to be. So... I guess I'll split the chapters and put Nathaniel in the middle there when I actually write his chapters (since it's not planned for him to meet up with the main group until the second part of the story I can stick him in any old place.).

I need 5k more words to hit my monthly goal in 3 days. Hell, that's NaNo pace... no reason I shouldn't be able to do that.

Also, I hit 70k words last night and the document is nearly 200 pages long. Yeesh. 0_0 Even though number of pages isn't a good standard way to measure the length of a book, it makes me happy. (font, btw, is Garamond, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing because 1.5 spacing is totally the easiest to read.)

That could mean it'll be about a 400 page document in word when the book is finished. That... might be a good length... right? >_>

Anyway. I've been out at night... a lot lately. So I decided I should probably stay in the next couple of nights, get some rest... play Paper Mario. XD I don't think the game will take me much longer unless they throw you for a loop with regard to these last few worlds. I just beat the space level.

...even though it's my own website I like my Paper Town avatar.

I really like my puppy layout but maybe my LJ could do with a layout swap. Maybe with Strawberry pie (yai yai yai yai ya yai) on it. And a caricature of me in Mini Moni style. ;) (which is more "Eliza": Traditional checkered waitress style, chef Mika, oooor Takahashi's kitty suit? ;))

Moar stuff [May. 23rd, 2008|11:34 am]
Ran to the store for a ream of paper and a stapler. Now I'm wishing I'd bought a sandwich. I'm starting to realize that traditional American breakfast food never really does it for me when I need to actually eat breakfast. Now at dinner I love it. XD But I remember both times when I was in Europe we'd have cold cuts and stuff served for breakfast and I ate a leftover hoagie for breakfast and it was good, and I remembered that, and yeah. So why did I not pick up a deli sandwich? *sigh* I'm not driving back to the store. -_- but I dunno, turkey and salami and bread make a good breakfast for me. Oh and cheese. Yeah.

I didn't make the connection until now, but now that I own Raiders of the Lost Ark on DVD... we can get the RiffTrax. I suspect fun will be had tonight.

Also, congrats to [info]ianmcorvidae on graduating high school. Glad I went to the ceremony, even though seeing a million younger siblings of people I knew freaked me out a little bit ;)

Okay fine [May. 23rd, 2008|10:09 am]
Fandango wants to know what I thought of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so fine, only I'm putting it in my LJ.

I kind of agree with the "third best" assessment. Better than Temple of Doom, for sure. But it was a good movie. It has some shortcomings which I will not list here for spoiler's sake, but I really enjoyed it. And I probably sound like a broken record re: this, but I actually really liked Shia LeBeouf in the movie. He was a lot of fun. And it was great to see Karen Allen again. It was a little weird, the movie being in the 50s, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

Most disappointing aspect? I didn't hear one Wilhelm scream. They usually put one in :( and I'm pretty good at catching it.

And I have no idea why Shaun's watching all the trailers now because, dude, we just saw the movie.

Okay, now I need to like... take a shower and run to the store for paper so I can print out critique material and sticker sheets, and do some general edits on the beginning of Circle so I can upload it to the crit group... *busy busy*
